SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Sophie Slattery (Edina, Minn.) scored her first two career goals, as the Penn State women's hockey team finished in a 2-2 tie against Syracuse in a College Hockey America (CHA) conference game Saturday afternoon at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Midway through the first period, Allie Munroe put the Syracuse Orange (2-7-2, 1-0-1 CHA) in front of Penn State (2-7-5, 0-2-4 CHA), 1-0, on her first goal of the season at 10:48.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the final moments of the first period, Slattery scored on the power play at 18:56 for her first career goal. On Slattery's first goal of the game, junior Meike Meilleur (Winnipeg, Manitoba) was credited with her third assist of the year.
Slattery then put Penn State up 2-1 on her second goal of the afternoon as she found the back of the net with 6:53 to go in the second period. Sophomore Abby Welch (East Amherst, N.Y.) picked up her second assist of the 2017-18 season on Slattery's second tally of the day.
The Orange were able to tie the game at 2-2 with 8:01 to go in regulation on Brooke Avery's second goal of the year.
Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal during the final 13:01 of play ending the contest in a 2-2 tie.
In net, Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished the day with 23 saves for Penn State, while Abbey Miller tallied a 21-save outing for Syracuse.
The Nittany Lions now head to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on No. 7 Cornell on Nov. 21 before traveling to Storrs, Conn., to play in the Nutmeg Classic, Nov. 24-25.
NOTES: Syracuse leads the all-time series against Penn State, 19-1-4...Syracuse outshot Penn State, 25-23...Penn State went 1-for-10 on the power play, while Syracuse went 2-for-8.
