Lee Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- The No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team picked up another Big Ten weekly award, this time senior outside hitter Simone Lee was honored with the Defensive Player of the Week tag, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Lee (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) averaged 4.67 digs per set, 0.83 blocks, and recorded back-to-back double-doubles this week, while also adding 5.58 points per set, and 4.33 kills per set on .383 hitting,

She tallied 16 kills and 15 digs against Iowa with a .429 hitting percentage, adding three blocks, and two aces. Against Maryland, Lee recorded 10 kills and 13 digs, with two aces, and two blocks, and a .320 hitting percentage. Lee finished with a 97.6-percent serve reception percentage on the week, as she took in over 50-percent of the team's reception attempts, only making one error all week in her 41 attempts.

Lee became the first Penn State outside hitter to earn a Defensive Player honor as all prior have been defensive specialists, liberos, or middle blockers.

With the honor, Penn State has now racked up 10 Big Ten weekly awards as Lee now has a Player and Defensive honor to her name, while Haleigh Washington has picked up four Player of the Week honors, Kendall White has earned three Defensive Player of the Week awards, and Ali Frantti snagged a Player of the Week honor.

The Nittany Lions host Indiana on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. for the final home match of the regular season.
