UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team swept Indiana, 3-0; 25-21, 25-16, 25-16, on Wednesday evening in Rec Hall to move to 16-1 in Big Ten action, and 26-1 overall.

The Nittany Lions put up impressive numbers at the net against the Hoosiers. Penn State tallied 13.0 blocks, posting 4.0 in the first set alone, while Indiana finished the match with just 1.0 total. Tori Gorrell (Oakville, Ontario), Heidi Thelen (Edgewood, Ky.), and Haleigh Washington (Colorado Springs, Co.) recorded eight, six, and five, respectively, to extinguish the Hoosier offense.

Along with her impressive defensive performance, Gorrell delivered an effective offensive outing as well as she posted six kills on a hitting percentage of .500.

Washington came in blazing in the first set, putting down five kills in the opener. The senior middle blocker finished the game with a match-high 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .667.

Senior outsides Ali Frantti (Spring Grove, Ill.) and Simone Lee (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) continued to be staples in the Penn State offense as they posted nine and six kills, respectively. Frantti finished with a .333 hitting percentage, adding five digs, while Lee finished with .316 clip and seven digs.

Setters Abby Detering (Mentor, Ohio) and Bryanna Weiskircher (Rockford, Ill.) led the offense by subsequently dishing out 19 and 15 assists. Detering added six digs and a service ace in tonight's match.

The Nittany Lions have managed to hold their last four opponents to sub-.100 hitting percentages, as they held Rutgers to .056 (11/4), Iowa to .040 (11/8), Maryland to .047 (11/11) and on Wednesday night, they held Indiana to .083.

Penn State travels to Piscataway, N.J., to face Rutgers for a 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, the first of three straight road matches to close out the regular season.
