NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team topped host Rutgers, 25-5, 25-9, 25-9, in Big Ten action on Saturday evening in College Avenue Gym on Rutgers' campus.
Penn State came out and set the tone early as they jumped out to a 16-1 lead in the opening set. From there, Penn State continued to play a clean and efficient match.
In the opening set, Penn State sided out at a perfect 100-percent. The Nittany Lions put down 12 kills on a .647 hitting percentage while tallying 6.0 blocks as a team.
Penn State finished the match with a .537 hitting percentage, with 40 kills, while holding Rutgers to -.082, and just 15 kills.
Senior Simone Lee (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) led the match with a game-high 17 kills, adding three blocks and four digs. Lee finished the match with a Penn State three-set match record in the 25-point rally scoring era with her .800 hitting percentage, as a player must have a minimum of 20 attempts for the record to stick.
Defensively, Kendall White (Indianapolis, Ind.) scooped up 15 digs, while Haleigh Washington (Colorado Springs, Co.) finished with a match-high five blocks.
Abby Detering (Mentor, Ohio) led the match with 20 assists, adding four kills, four digs, and two blocks, while Bryanna Weiskircher (Rockford, Ill.) finished with 15 assists, adding five digs.
This marks the sixth straight match that the Nittany Lions have held their opponents to sub-.100 hitting.
Penn State will close out the regular season with a Friday night match at No. 12 Wisconsin at 8 p.m. ET, and will head to No. 7 Minnesota for an 8:30 p.m. match on Saturday, Nov. 25.
