STORRS, Conn. - The Penn State women's hockey team played to a 1-1 tie against the UConn Huskies at the Freitas Ice Forum Friday.

Due to the tournament style of the Nutmeg Classic, the two teams went to a shootout period with UConn (4-5-5) topping Penn State (2-7-7), 2-1.

With it looking like the two teams would be heading into the first intermission with score tied at 0-0, sophomore defenseman Katie McMillan (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season to put the Nittany Lions in front of the Huskies, 1-0, with .2 seconds left on the clock.

The Huskies then tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty shot from Theresa Knutson at 11:59 of the second period.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the final 28:01 of regulation or during the five-minute overtime period sending the game into a 1-1 tie, but due to the tournament style this weekend, a winner would have to be decided.

With the two teams tied at 1-1 on shootout makes after three attempts, Natalie Snodgrass connected on her attempt clinching the shootout victory for UConn in the fourth round.

In net, Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) made 23 saves, while Annie Belanger recorded 27 saves for UConn.

Penn State will now play Yale on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m. in the consolation round. Saturday's meeting will be the first-ever between the two programs.
