UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Nittany Lions were unanimously picked as the 2018 favorite in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced on Friday morning by the conference office.
Penn State, the reigning EIVA Champions from the 2017 season, received all eight first-place votes and 64 points overall. Princeton, an EIVA Championship Tournament Semifinalist from last season, captured 54 points in the poll to place second while George Mason rounds out the top-three with 45 points. Saint Francis (Pa.), who advanced to the EIVA Championship match last season, earned 40 points to rank fourth in the preseason poll.
The 2018 EIVA Championship Tournament will begin with semifinal action on Thursday, April 19th and the championship match will be on Saturday, April 21st. The location of the entire tournament will be the home facility of the regular season champion.
The EIVA pre-season poll comes on the heels of the 2018 AVCA Division I-II Preseason Coaches' Poll that saw the Nittany Lions check in at No. 9.
Penn State opens the season at home Jan. 12-13 against Mount Olive and Alderson-Broaddus in Rec Hall.
