Pantazis Leads MGYM in Individual Finals

The Penn State men's gymnastics team took home four individual event victories, including sweeping the top three spots on the parallel bars in the individual event finals of the West Point Open Saturday, Jan. 13.

Freshman Brennan Pantazis (Sparks, Nev.) made his mark in his first weekend donning the Blue and White, capturing the individual event titles on the floor exercise with a 14.250 and on the parallel bars with a 13.900.

Junior Michael Burns (Baltimore, Ohio) continued to dominate the high bar at the West Point Open, capturing his third-straight title at the event with a 13.550.

The Nittany Lions saw their first victor of the evening in Pantazis on the floor exercise, while Wyatt Tyndall (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) picked up the second-place finish with a 14.200.

Sophomore Stephen Nedoroscik (Worcester, Mass.) notched his first pommel horse title of the 2018 season, earning a career-high 15.000, while senior Colin Coates (Emmaus, Pa.) earned the fifth-place finish for Penn State.

The Blue and White swept the parallel bars with Pantazis picking up his second win of the night and Sam Zakutney (Ottawa, Ontario) grabbed the second-place finish with a 13.800. Tyndall rounded out the top three with a 13.750 on the parallel bars.

Penn State saw one final win on the night as Burns picked up his third-straight high bar title and Zakutney placed sixth overall in the event finals.

Also competing for Penn State were Brayden Borromeo (vault), Quest Hayden (floor exercise), Alex Frack (pommel horse) and Noah Roberson (still rings).

The Nittany Lions will open their 2018 home campaign Saturday, Jan. 20 when they welcome the Black Knights of Army West Point. Meet time is set for 4 p.m. at Rec Hall.
