FNC: Lion Fencers Wrap Up Dual Action In New York

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State fencing teams competed in their third dual series of the season at St. John's in Queens, N.Y. today. Head coach Wes Glon's Nittany Lions battled Harvard, Columbia, St. John's, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

The men's team went 3-2. The Nittany Lions beat Ohio State, 16-11; St. John's, 16-11, and Columbia, 15-12. Leading the men's team was senior Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Sebastiano Bicego (Vicenza, Italy). Mackiewicz finished with a 13-2 record in saber, and Bicego finished with a 9-3 record on the day for men's foil.

The women's team went 2-3. The Nittany Lions won against St. John's, 16-11, and Harvard, 15-12.

Leading the women was Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France) and Barbara VanBenthuysen (Spring, Texas). Kalonji finished with a 12-3 record and VanBenthuysen with an 11-4 record, both in epee.
