UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team faced off against Colgate today defeating the Raiders 7-0. In the home opener the Lions walked away with three doubles wins and five singles wins.

The Nittany Lions clinched the doubles point by sweeping Colgate. Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) and Zach Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) defeated Scott Bickel and Noah Rosenblat in an impressive 6-1 bout. Second to finish was the pair of Chris Kuhnle (Shoreham, NY) and Noah Sutter (New York, NY) who outmatched Jacob Daugherty and Tyler Krantz 6-3. In a 7-point tiebreaker, Alp Sentay (Izmar, Turkey) and Matt Galush (Cary, NC) came through with the win after outpacing Alec Dardis and Jack Ablon 7-6 (7-5).

Singles panned out in favor of Penn State as well. Nemeth defeated Jacob Daugherty at No. 1 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2 Sentay took down Scott Bikel 6-0, 6-1. Zach Lieb knocked off Noah Rosenblat 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 and Matt Galush clinched the match at No. 4 with his 7-5, 6-2 win over Peter Hortman.

Kuhnle played strong at No. 5 against Alec Dardis and came out victorious 6-3, 6-4. Sutter had an impressive match at No. 6 against Jack Ablon coming back from a tough loss in the first set. Sutter defeated Ablon 0-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-7.

"I think we got the rust off a little bit," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "We needed that. We needed our freshman, Alp Sentay, to play both doubles and singles in a quality match, which he got. I thought Colgate all the way through the lineup was a scrappy group and did exactly what we needed to get ready for next week. We needed some match play. We needed some tough competition and I think we got it."

"Always good to start the season with a win," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "You can practice all you want but putting the players in real matches is what's needed to get the kinks out. It's going to be a long season and staying healthy is the key."
