PITTSBURGH - The Penn State women's hockey team recorded a pair of third-period goals to force a 2-2 tie against the Robert Morris Colonials in a College Hockey America (CHA) contest Friday night at the RMU Island Sports Center.

Robert Morris (14-6-4, 8-2-3 CHA) built a two-goal lead on a pair of goals from Kirsten Welsh. Welsh netted her first goal of the game at 4:28 into the first period and then tallied her second goal of the night with 3:35 remaining in the second frame.

Trailing 2-0 with 20 minutes to play in regulation, the Nittany Lions found the back of the net twice to send the game into overtime tied at 2-2.

The Nittany Lions (6-11-9, 3-5-5 CHA) cut into the deficit on sophomore Abby Welch's (East Amherst, N.Y.) first goal of the season at 3:03 into the third period. Then with 4:25 to go in regulation, freshman Natalie Heising (Maple Grove, Minn.) netted her fifth power play goal of the year to knot things up at two-goals apiece.

Penn State had another power play opportunity late in regulation that extended into overtime, but the Nittany Lions were unable convert.

In net, senior Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished with 27 saves, while Elijah Milne-Price recorded 19 saves for Robert Morris.

The two teams close out the series on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. inside the RMU Island Sports Center.
