UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team fell, 3-0, to the Princeton Tigers in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at the Pegula Ice Arena.
"Princeton is a really good team," head coach Jeff Kampersal said. "They're really well coached, super fast, and have super good habits. I thought we started slow and need to approach our games better at home, I thought we had a great second period where we controlled a lot, we got the puck behind their defense's feet, and we were kind of working there.
The third period, we were just average and easy to play against. There's a little bit of an up-and-down effort. We need to play 60 minutes and I need to coach them and make them better."
The Tigers (9-10-4) took a 1-0 lead on a shorthanded goal from Kiersten Falck with 4:23 left in the second period. Then at 7:22 into the third period, Carly Bullock gave Princeton a 2-0 lead over the Nittany Lions (6-13-9) with her 15th goal of the season.
Princeton capped off the game with an empty-net goal from Falck with 1:53 left in regulation.
In net, senior Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished the evening with 27 saves, while Stephanie Neatby recorded 23 saves for the Tigers.
The Nittany Lions now head to Erie, Pennsylvania, to take on the Mercyhurst Lakers for their final road trip of the 2017-18 regular season. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. on Feb. 9 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
