UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Coming off its first victory of the season No. 12 Penn State returns to Happy Valley to begin a three-game homestand when they battle Duquesne on Wednesday at 4 p.m. from the newly minted Panzer Stadium.

THE MATCHUP

  • The Nittany Lions and Dukes will meet for the seventh consecutive season and seventh time overall after the series began in 2012. Penn State is 6-0 all-time against Duquesne.
  • Penn State is outscoring Duquesne 97-35 and is averaging 16.17 goals per game including scoring at least 16 goals in three straight against the Dukes and five times overall.
  • Almost three years ago to the day on February 24, 2015, The Nittany Lions defeated the Dukes 16-0 marking the last shutout in program history and just the first since a 20-0 blanking of Lehigh in 1989.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE

  • The Dukes finished 2017 just 2-15 while going 0-9 in Atlantic 10 action. So far in 2018 Duquesne has only played one game a 10-9 setback to Robert Morris.
  • Duqense returns just two of its top five scorers from last season's roster, but do bring back leading scorer Jill Vacanti who led the team with 38 goals while adding seven assists for a team-best 45 points.
  • The Dukes do return both goalkeepers who saw action in 2017 led by Emily McMinimee who started 15 games last season posting a 2-12 record with a 16.57 goals against average and a .354 save percentage.
  • In 2018 Jill Vacanti and Sarah Kollhoff each lead the team with three goals while Vacanti has added an assist for a team-best four points after one game.
  • McMinimee allowed 10 goals on 15 shots against the Colonials.
  • The Dukes did cause 16 turnovers against RMU, which led to 27 turnovers, but they turned the ball over 23 times themselves with only nine being caused.
  • Duquesne also wasn't strong on the draw only winning seven of 21 for the game.

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

  • Penn State has played in back-to-back one goal games to open the season after playing in just three such contests all of 2017.
  • Penn State went 2-1 in one goal games in 2017 and 2-2 in 2016.

BETTER ON THE DRAW

  • After winning just three draws in a season opening loss at Towson, Junior Madison Carter collected 10 draw controls on Saturday against Lehigh.
  • Carter now ranks second in the Big Ten averaging 6.50 draws per game behind the 6.67 of Samantha Budd from Rutgers who has played in one more game than Carter.

MOVIN' ON UP

  • Both Carter and Katie O'Donnell secured hat-tricks against the Mountain Hawks on Saturday and in doing so each moved up on the Penn State all-time goals list.
  • O'Donnell is now tied with Diane Whipple '90 for eight with 148 goals and Carter is all alone in 16th with 127.
  • Carter is just 15 goals outside of the top-10 while O'Donnell is six out of the top-5.

MAD TOWN

  • It was a pair of Madison's who stole the show for Penn State last Saturday as sophomore goalkeeper Madison Cunningham turned in a career-high 14 saves to help Penn State to victory while Carter registered three goals.
  • Carter is currently tied for third in the Big Ten with nine goals on the season to rank tied for 16th nationally while her 4.50 goals per game leads the Big Ten.
  • Cunningham's 19 saves rank third in the Big Ten while her .514 save percentage ranks second.
