Bridgens, Tsang Honored by Big Ten

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Following career-best outings on Saturday against then-No. 18 George Washington, Penn State gymnasts Lauren Bridgens (Darnestown, Md.) and Briannah Tsang (Vancouver, British Columbia) were honored with Big Ten weekly honors, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Bridgens received Freshman of the Week honors, while Tsang was tabbed the Gymnast of Week.

This past weekend against George Washington, the Nittany Lions recorded a team season-best score of 196.150 and recorded season-best scores on vault (49.125) and floor exercise (49.350).

Bridgens finished the meet with three career-best performances (all-around, vault, and balance beam) and she tied a pair of career-best outings (uneven bars and floor exercise). For Bridgens, she finished third in the all-around with a career-best 39.475, placed third on vault with a career-best 9.850, tied a career-best 9.925 to tie for the uneven bars title, set a career-best 9.850 on balance beam to tie for third and tied a career-best 9.850 on the floor exercise to tie for fifth.

On the day for Tsang, she tallied scores of 9.900 (vault), 9.850 (uneven bars), 9.900 (balance beam), and 9.950 (floor exercise) en route to a career-best 39.600 in the all-around. Tsang brought home two event titles (vault and floor) and won the all-around title. Her score of 9.950 on the floor exercise tied her career-best mark and the No. 5 floor exercise score in school history.

The No. 27 Nittany Lions head to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to take on Pittsburgh & No. 31 West Virginia on Sunday, March 4. The meet is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Fitzgerald Field House.
