NEW YORK - Penn State sophomore guard Tony Carr was named to The Associated Press (AP) Men's Basketball All-Big Ten first team on Wednesday. The Philadelphia, Pa., native leads the conference in scoring at 19.9 points per game and in the Big Ten regular-season finale became the first Penn State men's basketball sophomore to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.
Now in its third year, the AP All-Big Ten teams are voted upon by a panel of 12 journalists who cover the programs. This is the first AP All-Big Ten first accolade for Carr, who was named to the All-Big Ten first team by both the leagues' coaches and media on Feb. 26.
Carr scored in double figures in all but two games this season and led the Nittany Lions in the points column 16 times in 2017-18. He has also accounted for additional Penn State offensive production with 138 assists.
Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 1 for the Penn State men's basketball team's second-round game after earning a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament. For the first-time ever, New York's Madison Square Garden is playing host to the event.
The No. 7 seed Nittany Lions will meet the No. 10 seed Northwestern with the broadcasts carried by the Big Ten Network, the Penn State Sports Network and GoPSUsports.com.
