OPENING TIP
The 2017-18 Nittany Lions made another impact on Penn State's Big Ten basketball history by achieving a third consecutive season with six or more Big Ten wins.

This was accomplished by Penn State only once before, in seasons 1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96.

QUICK HITS
• The Nittany Lions' 16th win on February 3 ties the second-earliest in terms of date Penn State has reached 16 wins in a season in its Big Ten era.

The earliest 16th win in the last 25 years came in the 2008-09 season, when Penn State recorded its 16th win of the season against Iowa on January 24, 2009. In the 1995-96 season reached its 16th win vs. Iowa in 1996, also on Feb. 3.

• Penn State made 35 field goals vs. Iowa, a season-high for 2017-18, topping 34 made vs. Pittsburgh (11/20/17). The regulation total is the most since the 2008-09 Nittany Lions had 36 vs. Lafayette and, in Big Ten action, 36 at Northwestern on February 22, 1995.

• The Nittany Lion starters are all averaging in double-digit scoring led by three sophomores: Tony Carr (19.5), Lamar Stevens (15.3) and Mike Watkins (13.1).

• Add Mike Watkins' name to the Penn State record book, again, as the redshirt sophomore went 9-10 from the field against Iowa, for a Penn State individual game record for field goal percentage (min. 10 attempts).

SERIES VS. MARYLAND
Penn State and Maryland have met on 22 previous occasions with the Terrapins holding a 13-9* overall lead in the series. Penn State trails in the Big Ten competition 1-4 with the victory coming exactly one year ago on February 7, 2017, when the Nittany Lions topped the Terps 70-64 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

*The 1938 contest is listed as a Penn State win, but accounts differ in whether or not the meeting was a game or exhibition.

Series streak: Maryland, W1
Overall series: Maryland leads 13-9
at University Park: Penn State leads 7-2
Big Ten games: Maryland leads 4-1

NUMBER NINE, NUMBER NINE
Nine teams now, in 2017-18, have been held to fewer than 60 points by the defensive-minded Nittany Lions. Iowa scored 58 points, its lowest point total in the Big Ten this year.

Penn State allowed the Scarlet Knights only 43 points, tying the low scoring total by an opponent this season. Coppin State had 43 points (12/30/17) in the final nonconference game. Oral Roberts (48) was also kept below 50 points.

Penn State is 12-1 in 2017-18 and was 11-0 in 2016-17 when keeping its opponents below 70 points.
