ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team played to a 1-1 tie against the Mercyhurst Lakers in a College Hockey America (CHA) contest Friday afternoon inside the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The Nittany Lions (6-13-10, 3-6-6 CHA) opened up the scoring on Irene Kiroplis' (Georgetown, Ontario) first goal of the season at 7:25 into the contest. On the Kiroplis tally, junior Meike Meilleur (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and sophomore Katie McMillan (Minnetonka, Minn.) were credited with assists.
Trailing 1-0 after one period of play, Mercyhurst (13-13-3, 10-3-2 CHA) knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal from Maggie Knott with 2:53 left to play in the second stanza.
During the five-minute overtime period, Penn State played the final 1:43 on the penalty kill. Down the final 1:43 of action, senior Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) stepped up for five saves to keep the game tied at 1-1.
In net, Ehresmann recorded 24 saves for the Nittany Lions, while Kennedy Blair tallied 17 saves for the Lakers.
The two teams close out the series Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. inside the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
