ALBANY, N.Y. ââ'¬" The 17-th-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team will look to avenge back-to-back losses as they travel to face the Albany Great Danes on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP

  • This marks just the third meeting all-time between the two schools with each team holding one win.
  • Albany won the initial meeting in 2011 by a 8-7 score while Penn State opened the 2017 season with a 20-9 victory over the Great Danes.
  • Both prior meetings took place in Happy Valley, so this marks the first meeting between the two teams in Albany.
  • Last season both Katie O'Donnell and Madison Carter tallied career-highs with five and six goals, respectively, while Steph Lazo collected 12 points on five goals and seven assists.

SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES

  • Albany enters the contest 0-5 on the year and have lost seven games in a row dating back to last season when they were bounced in the American East Tournament by Stony Brook and in the NCAA Tournament by Northwestern.
  • The Great Danes finished 2017 with a 12-6 overall record including a 5-1 mark in conference, but they graduated their top-three goal scorers losing Sarah Martin, Dakotah Savitcheff and Kenzie Neal who registered 63, 57 and 45 goals, respectively. Martin also lead the team with 109 points after adding 46 assists.
  • Albany does return Emma Powlin who had a team-high 47 assists to go along with 28 goals for 75 points and Sam Tortora who added 20 goals and 17 helpers for 37 points. Powlin along with freshman Kendra Harbinger lead the team so far this season with 10 goals each.
  • The Danes return both goaltenders who saw action last season led by Erin Leghart who has started all five games so far in 2018 posting a 14.87 goals against average and a .404 save percentage.
  • Albany averages just 9.40 goals per game while allowing 14.80 and they also turn the ball over 17.4 times per game and possess just a .736 clear percentage.

HIGH-FIVE

  • Junior Madison Carter has scored five goals in back-to-back games and has registered at least five goals in three games this season with three-plus goals in five of six.
  • Carter leads the team and ranks tied for the Big Ten lead and eighth nationally with 23 goals this season. The junior is currently riding a nine game goal streak while only behind held without a goal twice in her 48 career games played.
  • With her five-goal outing against JMU on Wednesday, Carter now ranks 11th on the all-time goals list at Penn State with 141 just a single goal behind Michele DeJuiis for tenth and only 15 goals out of the top-five all-time at Penn State.

LENDING A HELPING HAND

  • Senior Shelby Wells and sophomore Katie Schluederberg lead the team with eight assists each as Penn Satte averages 4.5 assists per game on 14.83 goals per game scored.
  • Wells has added three goals for 11 points while Schluederberg has added a pair of scores for 10 points to rank fourth and fifth on the team, respectively.
  • Sophomore Maria Auth added her first two assists of the season last game against JMU and has added 14 goals for 16 points this season. Auth is currently riding a nine game goal streak.

NEXT UP

  • Penn State returns home for its final non-conference tune up against Drexel on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before heading to Piscataway to open Big Ten play against Rutgers next Saturday at 12 p.m.
  • Wednesday afternoon's contest will air live on the Big Ten Network.
