UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State took care of Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday afternoon in Rec Hall, sending the Red Flash back to Loretto in defeat as the Nittany Lions grabbed a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) win in conference play.
Penn State snapped a five-game losing streak in impressive fashion, posting its sixth sweep of the season and the second against the Red Flash this season.
The Nittany Lions hit .370 as a team - including hitting .400 in the final set - while finishing the match with three players hitting .400 or better including Kevin Gear who finished with a line of 7-0-8 hitting .875 while also recording a block and an ace against Saint Francis (Pa.).
This finishes seven matches for us in about 17-days or the NHL part of our schedule," said head coach Mark Pavlik.
"We're playing the game well, we're putting ourselves in position to be in spots where we can win games. I thought today was no different. You look at over three sets we made seven hitting errors... in 100 swings, I'll take 4% hitting errors for the match," Pavlik continued.
With the win, Penn State holds a 6-2 record in EIVA conference play trailing George Mason by two games.
The Nittany Lions will take next weekend off before gearing up for road trips to Sacred Heart (Mar. 30) and Harvard (Mar. 31) as they continue the second round through conference play.
