UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team will close out its three-game homestand as they welcome No. 23 Loyola-Maryland to Panzer Stadium for a 1 pm. affair on Saturday afternoon.

THE MATCHUP

  • This marks the 32nd meeting all-time as the teams have met each season starting in 1986 with the exception of the 2009 season.
  • Penn State holds the 17-14 all-time advantage in the series and has gone 9-3 over the last 12 meetings including winning the last four after dropping the previous three.
  • Eight of the last nine meetings have been decided by four goals or less while 11 of the all-time meetings have been decided by a single-goal with Loyola holding the 8-3 advantage in one-goal games.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Loyola finished last season 11-8 overall, but went 9-0 in conference play winning the 2017 Patriot League regular season crown before falling to Navy in the Patriot League Championship.
  • The Greyhounds had ten players score double-digit goals last season and return eight of them for 2018, but are without the services of leading goal scorer Cami Whiteford who found the back of the net 54 times last season.
  • Loyola does return leading scorer Hannah Powers who finished 2017 with 73 points on 45 goals and 28 assists and Frankie Kamely who added 27 goals and 14 assists for 41 points.
  • The Greyhounds also return starting goalkeeper Kady Glynn who appeared in 17 games last season with 16 starts going 9-7 with an 11.71 goals against average and a .470 save percentage.
  • So far in 2018 Loyola is 0-2 with two hard fought losses to Johns Hopkins (14-11) and a 17-16 overtime loss to Florida in Gainesville. Saturday's game at Penn State closes out a three-game road swing for the Greyhounds to open the 2018 season before they play four-straight at home.
  • Powers leads the team with eight points on just a single goal, but a team-best seven assists while Kamely has fired home six goals and Hannah Savage has added five to pace the offense. Livy Rosenzweig, Taylor Vanthof and Sam Fiedler have each added three goals.
  • Glynn has played all 124 minutes in net this season and has posted a 15.00 goals against average and a .426 save percentage.
  • The Greyhounds are only averaging 24 shots per game, but are shooting at a 56.2 percent clip.

MOVIN' ON UP

  • Riding a 26 game goal streak and having scored multiple goals in 12 straight contests senior Katie O'Donnell has moved into a tie for fourth on the Penn State all-time goals list with Madison Cyr '16 with 156 goals.
  • O'Donnell's 14 goals this season lead the team and rank tied for fourth in the Big Ten and 21st in the nation.
  • The senior is coming off a career-high six goals and seven points during a 16-11 victory over Cornell last weekend. O'Donnell also added a pair of goals and one assist for a ten point week (eight goals, two assists) and was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.

FRESHMAN STRONG

  • Early in the season Penn State has already seen strong play by its freshman class as Quinn Nicolai has registered at least one goal in each game this season and is tied with Sophia Triandafils for the team lead by freshmen with five.
  • Triandafils had a career-high four goals, including a natural hat-trick, last week during a 19-8 victory over Duquesne.
  • Freshman goaltender Lucy Lowe also had a great week appearing in both games Lowe secured her first collegiate victory against Cornell after stopping a career-high eight shots and allowing just seven goals after coming on in relief just 6:41 into the game.
  • Lowe finished the week with a 7.23 goals against average and a .524 save percentage.

MAY I HELP YOU?

  • Without the services of Steph Lazo '17, Penn State entered the season without a quarterback on offense and has been searching for the right option to replace the 43 assists Lazo had last season.
  • So far the answer has been senior Shelby Wells and sophomore Katie Schluederberg who have each stepped up with six assists through the first four games this season to lead the team.
  • Wells opened the season with three straight games of two assists while Schluederberg had a career-game against Duquesne with a pair of goals and four assists for six points. Senior Maggie Gallagher and O'Donnell have each added a pair of assists this season.

MY MARIA

  • Picking right up where she left off the 2017 season, sophomore Maria Auth has registered multiple goals in seven straight games and ranks third on the team with nine goals so far this season.

POTENT OFFENSE

  • Penn State leads the Big Ten and ranks seventh in the nation averaging 35.50 shots per game while ranking second in the conference and tied for 12th in the nation averaging 15.50 goals per game.
  • The Nittany Lions also rank fifth in the nation with 24 free-position tallies as they are converting at 52.2 percent good for 23rd nationally. Both marks rank third in the Big Ten behind Maryland and Michigan.
