UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 45 Penn State men's tennis team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for their third Big Ten match this season. The Lions will face No. 8 Michigan Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m.
The No. 45 Nittany Lions (11-6, 1-1 B1G) are coming off three big wins this past weekend. The team swept Bucknell, and knocked off Michigan State, 5-1, and No. 42 Princeton, 4-3.
No. 8 Michigan is 11-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The Wolverines are coming off a 7-0 sweep of Michigan State.
Last season, Penn State fell to then No. 16 Michigan, 4-3. The Lions also fell to the Wolverines in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.
"There are three teams from the Big Ten in the Top 10 rankings in the country," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "We play two of them on the road, Ohio State and Michigan, and we play Illinois at home. When we play Michigan on Saturday, I really want to see how we react in a heated environment. It is going to be intense and the level is going to be very high. It is another test in a long season and I am hoping we get a passing grade when it is over."
"Playing Michigan at their place is always a challenge," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "They always get a good crowd with plenty of energy. It's going to make for some great college tennis. We came close to upsetting them last year here, but fell short. As always, the key will be the doubles point. I feel confident that our doubles can beat anybody out there and we will find a way to get the other three points."
Up next, the Nittany Lions will take on Wisconsin Saturday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. ET in Madison, Wisc. The Lions will then face No. 30 Minnesota Sunday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET in Minneapolis, Minn.
