USBWA Release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State sophomore Tony Carr was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) 2017-18 All-District II Team, honoring players in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Philadelphia, Pa., native has been raking in the postseason accolades as he was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team following the championship game at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. He also earned All-Big Ten First Team honors from both the league's coaches and the media and was named AP All-Big Ten team last week as well.

Carr leads the league in scoring at 19.9 points per game and claimed the conference scoring title at 20.1 points per game. Carr scored in double figures in all but two games this season and led the Nittany Lions in the points column 16 times in 2017-18. He has also accounted for additional Penn State offensive production with 138 assists.

At the Big Ten Tournament, Carr, who scored 25 points in back-to-back games against Northwestern and Ohio State, averaged 20.7 points over the three games. He is one of only six players in Big Ten Tournament history to have multiple 25-point games in a single Big Ten Tournament.

The sophomore guard is the fifth Nittany Lions in Penn State history to earn the honor. Jarrett Stephens (2000), Geary Claxton (2006), Talor Battle (2009 and 2011), and D.J. Newbill (2015) each earned USBWA All-District honors.
