University Park, Pa.- The Penn State women's golf team will host a free health fair and golf clinic on Tuesday, Apr. 17 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Penn State Golf Courses.
The event is open and free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their clubs as the putting green and driving range will be open for use. People will be able to practice their swing and hit range balls for free under the watchful eye of varsity athletes.
The Nittany Lions are teaming up with Exercise is Medicine and Penn State Health to provide running shoe analysis, health assessments and blood pressure screening for all who attend. Dr. Kris Clark, former Penn State Sports Nutritionist, will also be on site to provide advice and answer any nutrition-related questions.
The clinic comes in conjunction with the team's year-long fundraising effort through their campaign, Birdies For The Heart. The team partnered with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center back in the fall to raise money for the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center.
For the fall, the ladies tallied a total of 197 birdies in five tournaments putting them at the half-way mark of their $10,000 goal. The Nittany Lions added 67 birdies this spring bringing their season-long birdie total to 264.
With two tournaments left in the regular season, there is still time to join the team in their efforts to raise funds by making a donation. Donation forms will be available at the clinic on Tuesday, Apr. 17 or can be found online HERE. Please submit all forms to Head Coach Denise St. Pierre at dxs10@psu.edu.
"We are excited to be part of a movement to bring awareness to women and their heart health," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "Through this clinic, we hope to increase people's knowledge of signs to look for and ways to help prevent heart disease."
The Penn State Women's Golf team encourages everyone to come out Tuesday evening for a night of fun and to help #BePartOfTheSolution.
