STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -
The 22nd annual Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State Golf Tournament, hosted by Nittany Lion basketball coach Patrick Chambers, will be held Friday, June 1, at the Penn State Golf Courses. Through this golf tournament, as well as other annual events and other partnerships, Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State is able to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society to support cancer research and mission programs in our local community.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament, presented by local sponsor PSECU, has become one of the premier golf events in Pennsylvania, welcoming approximately 350 golfers, sponsors and regional sports luminaries to the Penn State Golf Courses.

The five-player, 18-hole scramble tournament is just one of the activities held Thursday-Friday, May 31-June 1. On May 31, the night before the golf tournament, CVC presents a Sponsors/Captain Reception at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, featuring heavy hors d'oeuvres, open beverage service and live music. A fun-filled awards dinner follows the golf tournament at the President's Suite at Beaver Stadium.

The Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State Golf Tournament on Friday, June 1, features the Penn State men's basketball coaching staff and other current and former Penn State head coaches, department leaders and special guests who will join golfers on the course or at the other events.

The Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer was established in 1995 by former Nittany Lion head coach Bruce Parkhill who grew up and attended high school in State College. Penn State basketball coaches Parkhill, Jerry Dunn, Ed DeChellis, and now Chambers have carried on the mission. Since the organization's launch, the CVC-Penn State chapter has raised more than $2.8 million to date and is among nation's most successful fundraising chapters.

The golf tournament hosted by CVC-Penn State, now in its 22nd year, was initiated by Dunn during his 1995-2003 tenure in University Park. The tournament has since raised more than $1.5 million, with Parkhill and Dunn competing in it each year.

Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State hosts events throughout the year.

Upcoming events include a State College Spikes game on Aug. 3, 2018, the State College Brew Expo at Tussey Mountain Ski Resort Saturday, Aug. 11, and the annual Reverse Car Drawing, hosted by the Bestwick Foundation, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Thursday, Sept. 20.

Individuals can get involved with the Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State chapter by becoming a sponsor or volunteering. For more information, visit www.cvcpennstate.org or call 814-238-3430.
