Trio From WLAX Named IWLCA First-Team All-Region

May 11, 2018

GRAND LAKE, Colo. - Senior Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) and junior classmates Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) and Kayla Brisolari (Crofton, Md.) were each named 2018 IWLCA First-Team All-Region for the West/Midwest region as announced earlier Friday afternoon.

In total 128 Division I women's lacrosse student-athletes were honored throughout the four regions including 15 from the Big Ten. Of those 15, 11 landed on the first-team led by five Maryland Terrapins in the South region while both the Nittany Lions and Northwestern Wildcats had three each in the West/Midwest region

Since the IWLCA began recognizing All-Region teams in 2005, Penn State now has 55 honorees with 37 of those being First-Team members. The Nittany Lions have now had at least three First-Team members in seven seasons including five of the last seven since 2012.

All three student-athletes remain eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team to be announced in June.

O'Donnell, the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and a Tewaaraton Award nominee, earns her second-straight First-Team nod. The senior ranks second on the team with 56 goals to rank third in the Big Ten. An Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American, O'Donnell has scored four game-winning goals this season to rank second in the conference while also scoring multiple goals in 15 games this season with three or more goals in 12 of those contests.

This season O'Donnell has moved up to fourth all-time at Penn State in goals with 198 as she has a chance to become just the fourth player in program history to reach the 200 goal plateau. O'Donnell has also moved up to sixth on the Penn State all-time points list with 222 to her name.

Carter, who was also named to the All-Big Ten team and an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American, earns her third-straight All-Region honor and second-straight nod on the First-Team. The junior currently leads the team with 57 goals to rank second in the Big Ten and has moved all the way up the Penn State all-time goals list ranking right behind O'Donnell in fifth with 175 career goals.

Brisolari, also a 2018 All-Big Ten member, earns her first IWLCA All-Region selection on defense as the junior ranks second on the team with 72 draw controls while her 24 caused turnovers are good for second. Brisolari has also added 21 groundballs to go along with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points.

The Nittany Lions earned their seventh-straight NCAA Tournament appearance last weekend and will continue their season on Friday with a first-round contest against Penn at 5 p.m.
