UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State swimming and diving teams elected captains for the 2018-19 season, naming rising-seniors Ally McHugh and Katrina Kuhn to guide the women's team and Robbie Dickson and Sterg Dikos to lead the men's team, head coach Tim Murphy announced Friday.
The quartet are accomplished both in the classroom and in the pool.
On the women's side, McHugh and Kuhn are both first-time captains. McHugh has led the women's team with two NCAA appearances in the last two seasons, highlighted by a silver medal in the mile at the 2018 championships. A member of the U.S. National Team and the school record holder in four different events, she returns as the NCAA's leading miler and the defending Big Ten Champion in the event.
"I am super excited to have been chosen as a captain for the 2018-2019 season!" said McHugh. "I can't wait to lead this amazing group of women and continue to uphold the pride and traditions of Penn State women's swimming and diving."
Kuhn, an Academic All-Big Ten selection, led Penn State in the 50 freestyle last season, scoring at the Big Ten Championships and was also a valuable member of the team's relay efforts.
On the men's side, Dickson will be serving as a team captain for a second consecutive year. He is coming off his most successful season, highlighted by personal-best swims at the Big Ten Championships of 15:33.11 to score in the mile and 4:24.90 in the 500 freestyle to move up to eighth on Penn State's all-time top-10 performers list. Dickson was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
"I am honored to have been re-elected as captain," said Dickson. "I learned a lot last year and am ready to build off that. We've set some pretty high goals for ourselves and I'm ready to help these boys accomplish them all."
Dikos will join Dickson as a team captain. He led the team in the 100 butterfly last season and scored at Big Tens in the 200 fly.
"I'm honored to represent the men's team as a captain this year," said Dikos. "I'm looking forward to working with the team and making sure that we have a successful season this year!"
