MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Penn State softball team was unable to come away victorious in game two of the series with the Minnesota Golden Gophers Saturday, May 5 at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium, falling 19-0 in the Big Ten Conference contest.

Sophomore Amanda Grieco (Basking Ridge, N.J.) tallied the first hit of the game for the Blue and White in the top of the third inning, while Gianna Arrizurieta (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Tori Dubois (Mt. Vernon, N.H.) each added one hit in the third inning. Arrizurieta added her second hit of the contest in the top of the fifth inning when she doubled down the right field line.

Junior Madison Shaffer (New Castle, Pa.) took the loss in the circle, throwing the first inning of action before Ashton Mensinger (Nescopeck, Pa.) came on in relief in the second inning.

Minnesota notched 14 hits and capitalized on two Penn State errors to tally the win. Kendly Lindaman led the Golden Gopher offense with five RBI on the day and both McKenna Partain and Maddie Houlihan drove in two runs each for Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, scoring 11 runs on six hits, including a grand slam and a solo home run and one Penn State error.

Minnesota extended its lead to 14-0 in the bottom of the second inning when it scored three two-out runs on singles to the grass.

Penn State looked to make an offensive push in the top of the third inning, loading the bases with one walk and back-to-back singles with two outs on the board. Minnesota secured the final out of the inning with an infield groundout to close out the inning before the NIttany Lions could plate a run.

Minnesota added two runs in the third inning and three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to lock up the 19-0 game two victory over the Blue and White.
