UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - With the conclusion of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday, today marks the beginning of NHL Development Camps and over the next few weeks 11 current and former Penn State men's hockey players will tone their skills with NHL clubs.
Returning draftees Evan Barratt (Chicago - July 14-20), Cole Hults (LA - June 25-29) and Denis Smirnov (Colorado - June 27 - July 3) and incoming freshman Aarne Talvitie (NJ - July 9-14) will each travel to their respective development camps this summer while Andrew Sturtz (Ottawa - June 27 - July 3) and Trevor Hamilton (Detroit - June 26-30) will join their new organizations at development camp after signing professional contracts earlier this spring. Former goaltender Eamon McAdam will also be attending camp with the New York Islanders on June 25-29.
Both Chase Berger and Alex Limoges will join McAdam with the Islanders while Brandon Biro will travel to the Buffalo Sabres camp from June 26-30. Goaltender Peyton Jones rounds out the group as he will participate in a pair of development camps this summer, first traveling to Washington on June 25-29 and then Chicago on July 15-20.
NCAA student-athletes participating in NHL development camps do not have their eligibility affected. The camps give team draft picks and free agent invitees the chance to experience an NHL camp with team staff on and off the ice.
Penn State is set to begin its quest for a third straight NCAA Tournament appearance when the puck drops against Clarkson on October 11.
