July 25, 2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. â€" The Penn State Men's Tennis squad has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team, while three Nittany Lions earned Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced Tuesday.

Junior Matt Galush (Cary, N.C.), freshman Chris Kuhnle (Shoreham, N.Y.) and sophomore Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) collected the Scholar-Athlete honors.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The Nittany Lions, led by head coach Jeff Zinn, were also honored as an All-Academic Team thanks to their strong overall team performance in the classroom. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

Overall, 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across all divisions of collegiate tennis were honored by the ITA with the academic accolades.
