UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Louis Olsakovsky, a rising sophomore from Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, and the 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) newcomer of the year, has transferred to Penn State, head coach Greg Nye announced. Olsakovsky may participate in competitions for the Nittany Lions immediately and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited to have Louis join our program," said Nittany Lion men's golf coach Greg Nye. "He had a fantastic freshman season last year which culminated with him winning an individual conference championship by a very impressive nine-shot margin! He brings a passion for game, athleticism and excellent overall fundamentals. He moves the ball very well, and has demonstrated quality scoring skills."
In his first year of collegiate golf at Allegheny College, Olsakovsky won or shared medalist honors at four events during the 2017-18 season. He finished in the top 10 in eight of the 12 events on the Gators' schedule and posted a team-best 74.2 stroke average.
Olsakovsky claimed the NCAC individual title in the spring of 2018, becoming the first first-year player to win the league crown since 2006. His was selected as the 2018 NCAC newcomer of the year for his efforts.
A four-year letterwinner for Upper St. Clair High School, Olsakovsky helped his Panthers golf team to the 2013 WPIAL and Pennsylvania titles. He won the individual WPIAL Section 7 championship twice, first in his sophomore year and then again as a senior. Following his junior year, he qualified for the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur in Ooltewah, Tenn.
