ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2018-19 preseason watch list for men's golf and tabbed Penn State seniors Charles Huntzinger and JD Hughes, and junior Ryan Davis.
Huntzinger earned Big Ten honors for the third-straight year in 2018 and recorded top-five finishes as the Windon Memorial Classic and the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Duluth, Georgia, native had the second-lowest scoring average last season and posted a top-20 showing in the Pacific Coast Amateur this past summer.
With two top-five finishes in regular-season play and the second-best score in the NCAA Regional, Hughes returns to collegiate play following a top-10 finish at the Pennsylvania Open. Hughes resume includes a Pennsylvania Amateur championship (2017) and status as a 2016 U.S. Amateur qualifier.
Davis heads into this junior campaign coming off his 2018 MET Amateur championship earlier this month. From Berkeley Heights, N.J., Davis competed in 12 events for the Nittany Lions in 2017-18 including the Big Ten Championship and NCAA Regional.
Under the direction of Penn State men's golf head coach Greg Nye, Penn State made is fourth-straight NCAA Regional appearance and 24th overall in program history in 2018. Nye was honored for the 11th time as the Golf Pride Northeast Coach of the Year this past spring.
The Penn State men's golf team opens the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule at the Rod Myers Invitational at the Duke University Golf Club Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 8-9.
