Lady Lions Announce 2019 Play4Kay Game

Pennsylvania Pink Zone

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's basketball team has announced that it will host its 13th-annual Play4Kay game benefitting Pink Zone on Sunday, Feb. 10 when the Lady Lions welcome Michigan in a Big Ten battle inside the Bryce Jordan Center.

"Our Play4Kay game is truly one of the highlights of our schedule every year," said head coach Coquese Washington. "Many people have been touched by cancer in some way and this gives us a chance to partner with individuals and businesses in our community to raise awareness, provide support, and celebrate survivors in a spectacular fashion."

Pink Zone and Penn State Lady Lion Basketball are a unified force in the fight against breast cancer on the court, across campus and within communities. Pink Zone promotes cancer awareness and empowers survivors through year-long efforts to raise funds critical in supporting vital breast cancer organizations, charities and facilities that focus on breast cancer education, research, diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

Pink Zone and Lady Lion Basketball have distributed more than $2 million since the partnership began in 2007. The event began in 2007 with $20,490 raised and 31 cancer survivors in attendance and has grown into an event that has distributed over $200,000 per year in six of the last seven years and welcomes more than 500 cancer survivors annually. There were 553 survivors present at last season's game celebrating 3,476 years of survival.

Pink Zone's six beneficiaries include; Mount Nittany Health Foundation, Penn State Cancer Institute, Kay Yow Foundation, PA Breast Cancer Coalition, JC Blair Memorial Hospital and Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

When the Lady Lions tip off at the Play4Kay Game benefiting Pink Zone, they will be playing for more than just a game. The traditional blue and white uniforms will be swapped for pink, as Penn State honors those in the fight of their lives against breast cancer. The Lady Lions were the first NCAA team to don pink uniforms in 2007 and have been honored as the Play 4 Kay Division I initiative winner twice in program history, winning the award in 2013 and 2014.
