No. 5 Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 5 Penn State women's volleyball team took down Howard University, 3-0; 27-25, 25-13, 25-21, in Burr Gymnasium on Howard's campus on Friday evening.

The Nittany Lions came out a little sluggish on Friday evening, falling behind 24-21 in the opening set, but behind a strong service run by Taylor Leath, the Nittany Lions were able to tie the match at 24, and clinched the set 27-25.

Penn State went on to handle the rest of the evening with relative ease. Penn State saw redshirt senior Nia Reed lead the way with 10 kills on a .368 hitting percentage.

Graduate student Taylor Leath and freshman Jonni Parker each added six kills. Leath added eight digs and four blocks to her stat line, and Parker added a career-best four aces and dished out four blocks for her stat line.

In the middle, freshmen Kaitlyn Hord and Serena Gray were a force on the block. Hord led the match with eight blocks, while Gray added six. Hord tallied five kills, while Gray added four.

Redshirt senior Bryanna Weiskircher dished out 26 assists, adding a kill and a block.

Junior Kendall White led the match with 10 digs.

Penn State will return to action on Saturday afternoon for a 1:30 p.m. match against Buffalo at American University. The Nittany Lions will then turn around and play American at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
