UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Nittany Lion men's golf team travels to Richmond, Va., to compete in the VCU Janney Invitational Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 17-18. Penn State joins a field of 11 teams at the annual tournament which will be played at the Tuckahoe Creek Course at the Country Club of Virginia.
Last year's VCU Janney Invitational featured a 72-par, 6,927-yard layout. Eight of the teams from the 2017 VCU Janney Shootout return to Richmond with defending champion West Virginia in the field.
The invitational employs a shotgun start with the teams starting at 8:45 a.m. Monday. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com. JD Hughes, Ryan Davis, Charles Huntzinger, Ryan Dornes and Alec Bard will represent Penn State with James McHugh competing as an individual.
"We anticipate some soggy and windy conditions down in Richmond," said Penn State head men's golf coach Greg Nye. "We will likely find out much more about conditions on our practice day, and with a closer-to-tournament forecast, then discuss our strategy."
Penn State won the VCU fall tournament in back-to-back years, 2006 and 2007, with Nittany Lion All-American Kevin Foley capturing medalist honors with a 15-under par performance in 2007.
A late Sunday morning practice round has been assigned to Penn State.
