Parker Named B1G Freshman of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – For the second-straight week, the Penn State women's volleyball team earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, this time with opposite hitter Jonni Parker taking home the accolade.

Parker, the American Volleyball Classic Most Valuable Player, averaged a team-high 3.20 kills on .373 hitting percentage. Over the weekend, she added 11 digs, nine blocks, five aces and four assists to her stat line. She led all Nittany Lions with 41.5 points.

In the final match of the tournament, Parker put together her most impressive performance to date. She put down a career-best and team-high 17 kills on a .341 hitting percentage against American, while adding four digs and three blocks.

Against Buffalo, Parker played a complete game, tallying nine kills on a .471 hitting percentage. She also added six digs, two blocks, and three assists.

Against Howard, the freshman added six kills on a .357 clip, four blocks and four aces.

Parker joins fellow freshman Kaitlyn Hord as Big Ten weekly award winners. Hord was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on September 10.

The Nittany Lions continue their road trip as they open up Big Ten play at Minnesota on Wednesday, September 19 at 9 p.m. ET. The match will be on the Big Ten Network.
