Women's Lacrosse Adds Lazo To Coaching Staff

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Former Penn State Women's Lacrosse All-American Steph Lazo has rejoined the program as a Volunteer Coach on Missy Doherty's staff.  Lazo, a 2017 Penn State graduate, spent last season as an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary's.

Lazo helped the Nittany Lions to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two National Semifinals during her career.  In 2017, she was named the Penn State Female Athlete of the Year after being Penn State's first IWLCA First Team All-American.  She ranks seventh all-time at PSU in points (211) and assists (89).

The Stevensville, Md. native was a three-time All-Region selection, two-time All-American, two-time All-Big Ten selection, two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and the 2017 Big Ten Attack Player of the Year.  As a senior, Lazo was a unanimous All-Big Ten pick, leading the conference in points, with 89, and assists, with 43, the second-most assists in a season in program history.

The Rehabilitation and Human Services major was the MVP of the 2017 IWLCA Senior All-Star game.  She was selected by the New England Command in the inaugural Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) draft in 2017.

"We are so excited to have Steph back in Happy Valley," said Doherty. "She is a great coach and leader. She will have an immediate impact on our program."

The Nittany Lions return 26 members from last year's squad.  Penn State reached its seventh straight NCAA tournament in 2018.
