WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 5 Penn State women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a non-conference contest Sunday evening at Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest (3-1-1) tallied the game's lone goal in the 13th minute when Bayley Feist fired a shot from distance that went over the outstretched Nittany Lion (3-2-0) goalkeeper Amanda Dennis (San Diego, Calif.), under the crossbar, and into the back of the net.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Nittany Lions outshot the Demon Deacons by a margin of 8-2 during the final 45 minutes of play, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Offensively for the Blue & White, senior Charlotte Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied four shots on goal, while sophomore Frankie Tagliaferri (Colts Neck, N.J.) posted three shots on goal.
In net for Wake Forest, Nonie Frishette stepped up for 12 saves during the 90 minutes of action, which included seven in the second half, while Dennis recorded three saves.
Penn State returns home to Happy Valley to begin a three-game homestand on Thursday, Sept. 6, against Syracuse. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Jeffrey Field.
