Women’s Swimming & Diving Dominates Home Opener

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team posted top times and scores in all events, as it cruised past George Washington, 183-109, Friday afternoon in McCoy Natatorium.
 
Nittany Lion Relays
Penn State touched first in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Nittany Lions Marie Schobel, Maddie Cooke, Maddie Hart and Katrina Kuhn finished the 200 medley with a time of 1:42.51. Sadie Schumann, Heather MacDougall, Maddie Cooke and Marget Shelly finished the 400 free relay in 3:31.86.  

Top Swims
Senior captain Ally McHugh, the reigning Big Ten Women's Swimmer of the Week led the Penn State women taking first in three events. McHugh completed the 200 free, breaststroke and IM with times of 1:48.96, 2:19.84 and 2:05.79, respectively.
 
Freshman Marie Schobel led a Nittany Lion sweep of the 100 backstroke finishing the race with a time of 56.33. Brooke Matthias and Heather MacDougall followed suit with times of 57.36 and 58.16, respectively. Schobel also won the 200 back in 2:01.32.
 
Junior Maddie Hart also led the Penn State women in a winning trio in the 200 butterfly, as she touched first in 2:03.03 and was followed by Stephanie Szekley (2:06.13) and Madison Ledwith (2:08.50).
 
Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week award winner, Madison Murtagh came in on top in the 1000 free with a time of 10:00.53. She also finished the 200 backstroke in third place with a time of 2:04.50.
 
Top Dives
Junior Christina Crowell, the reigning Big Ten Women's Diver of the Week, led Penn State on the boards, sweeping the 1- and 3-meter events.
