Schobel Named B1G’s Freshman of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – After leading the Nittany Lions in two events Friday afternoon, Penn State freshman Marie Schobel (Sea Girt, N.J.) was named the Big Ten Women's Swimming & Diving Freshman of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Schobel touched first in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes and led a winning effort in the 200 medley relay during the match up against George Washington last Friday at Penn State. She completed the 100 back in 56.33, a personal best for the freshman Nittany Lion, and  won the 200 back with a time of 2:01.32.
This is the first Big Ten honor for Schobel and the first time Penn State freshmen have earned back-to-back honors with Madison Murtagh claiming the award last week.
 
The Nittany Lions hit the road next week to face off against Virginia Tech and Big Ten foe Ohio State in Blacksburg, Virginia, The two day meet begins Friday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.
