UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two members of the Penn State men's tennis saw their first action of the fall season at the ITA All-Americans.
Constant De La Bassetiere (Reims, France) and Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario) both competed in the singles and doubles competition.
In the first round of the qualifying draw, De La Bassetiere saw action against Duarte Vale of Florida. De La Bassetiere put up a solid fight against Vale, but was ultimately defeated 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
Lakoseljac also competed in the first round of the qualifying draw against Indiana's Antonio Cembellin. Despite a tough fight, Lakoseljac was defeated 6-4, 6-4.
Both De La Bassetiere and Lakoseljac will resume play tomorrow in back draw singles.
"Every player here has had to earn their way to participate in this ITA National Championship Event," head coach Jeff Zinn said. "There are no easy matches and today was no exception. I thought both players played well in singles and could have won their matches."
De La Bassetiere and Lakoseljac also paired up to compete in the doubles qualifying draw, where they took on the duo of Alastair Gray and Reese Stalder of TCU.
"We need to study today's matches and come out tomorrow for a successful end to the tournament," Zinn said. "It's always good to end the tournament with a win and that's our goal for tomorrow."
