CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team took home four first-place finishes, but Virginia Tech and No. 15 Ohio State prevailed leading Penn State 190-163 and 231-122, respectively, during a two-day double dual meet concluding Saturday in the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Nittany Lion Relays
Oliva Jack, Katrina Kuhn, Meredith Ledwith and Kathleen Sheridan finished fourth in the women's 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.47 for the top Penn State relay performance of the night on Friday.
Top Swims
Penn State senior captain Ally McHugh led the Nittany Lions in three events throughout the weekend taking first in the 500 free on Friday and both the 1000 free and 400 IM on Saturday. McHugh led the 1000 free by about 10 seconds, finishing the race in 9:55.97. Freshman Madison Murtagh followed suit finishing second (10:06.94) in the race after taking a third place finish in the 500 free on Friday evening. McHugh swam a B-cut time in the 400 IM of 4:17.08.
On Friday, Carly Hart trailed an Ohio State Swimmer in the 100 breast, but took first against Virginia Tech with a season-best time. Hart beat out Ohio State by two seconds to take second overall in the 200 back with a time of 2:18.83.
After leading Penn State in the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 2:00.51 and taking first in the 200 fly on Friday, Maddie Hart came out strong finishing first in the 100 fly and third in the 100 back finishing the races with times of 55.43 and 55.98, respectively.
Freshman Brook Matthias completed the weekend with a fourth place finish in the 200 back (2:04.23) on Friday and a third place finish in the 100 fly (56.14).
Top Dives
Junior Christina Crowell took third place in the women's 3-meter dive scoring 266.30 points on Friday.
