Nittany Lions Conclude Play at Big Ten Indoors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's tennis team completed play at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan. Five Nittany Lions hit the court today in doubles and singles play.

Doubles

In flight A, Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario, Canada) and Christos Antonopoulos (Athens, Greece) started off their day against Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo of Iowa. The Blue and White lost a tough match 8-7(3). In consolation matches, Lakoseljac/Antonopoulos played Connor Johnston and Patrick Maloney of Michigan but suffered a tough loss, 8-3.

In flight B, in consolation, Alp Sentay (Izmar, Turkey) and Noah Sutter (New York, N.Y.) went up against John Carlin and Billy Shisler of Michigan State, but lost 8-2. They went on to play Alan Sweet and Daniel Nuzhny of Wisconsin, who they defeated, 8-7(3).

In flight C, Chris Kuhnle (Shoreham, N.Y.) played with Iowa's Jason Kerst. The pair was defeated by Iowa's Nikita Snezhko and Jonas Larson in the second round.

Singles

Lakoseljac was the lone singles player left in the main draw in the round of 16. He faced off against Wisconsin's Jesper Freimuth, falling due to retirement, 6-4, 2-5, ret.

In his consolation match, Alp Sentay (Izmar, Turkey) defeated Alvaro Moreno Lozano of Nebraska in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa) lost his consolation match to Northwestern's Antonioni Fasano 6-4, 6-1.

Chris Kuhnle (Shoreham, N.Y.) suffered a loss to AJ Joshi of Northwestern 6-1, 6-1 in his consolation match.

"We had some ups and downs today," associate head coach Paul Tobin said. "We need to go back, regroup and continue with our training since this is the last tournament of the year for most of the guys. Certainly we are walking away with positive things to work on."

Up next for the Nittany Lions, Constant De La Bassetiere (Reims, France) and Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) will travel to Suprise, Az. for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships from Nov. 7-11.
