Peyton Jones Named B1G Third Star of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior goaltender Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday morning following his performance last Friday during a 4-2 victory over No. 13 Princeton.

Jones was brilliant in net once again registering his third-straight game with 30-plus saves to open the season as he stopped 32-of-34 shots faced against the Tigers. The junior was exceptional during the first period making 16 saves including 10 shots during a pair of Princeton power-play's to keep its high-powered offense off the board.

This marks the first weekly award this season for Jones and the fifth of his career. Jones is the second Nittany Lion to be recognized this season joining fellow junior Brandon Biro (Sherwood Park, Alberta) who was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week on October 16.

On the year, Jones is 3-0-0 including a pair of victories over top-20 opponents in Clarkson and Princeton. The junior currently leads the Big Ten with a .963 save percentage and a 1.33 goals against average to rank fifth and ninth in the nation, respectively, but second and fourth based on starts and minutes played.

Last Friday, Jones became the all-time leader at Penn State for starts by a goaltender with 74 passing the 73 of Matt Skoff '16. Jones is also just 144 saves behind Skoff's Penn State record of 2,114.

Penn State returns to action this weekend against Arizona State in a pair of non-conference matchups on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m. inside Pegula Ice Arena. Tickets for each game are available here.

The 2018-19 men's ice hockey season is presented by the Penn State Bookstore: the official Bookstore of Penn State Athletics.
