UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's gymnastics junior Sam Zakutney has been selected to the Canadian Senior National Team for the 2018 World Gymnastics Championships in Doha, Qatar from October 25 through November 3.

"We are really excited for Sam," Head Coach Randy Jepson noted on Zakutney's selection. "This is something he has been pointed towards, it's something that we have helped him to reach during his time here at Penn State. Now, entering his junior year, Sam gets to enter the world stage as a World Championship competitor and we couldn't be any happier."

Zakutney is one of just five athletes selected to compete for Team Canada.

Team Canada, who will be competing in subdivision 5, will open up qualifying rounds on Thursday, October 25, with the team finals taking place on Monday, October 29.

Then on Wednesday, October 31, the individual all-around competition will take place, with the individual event finals taking place on November 1 and 2.

"It's a great opportunity to continue the legacy we've had of international competitors for Penn State, and it's great to see Sam step into that international arena. We know that he will do a great job representing Team Canada."
