WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Penn State senior women's swimmer Ally McHugh swam the fastest 500 freestyle time in the nation this year and Penn State senior men's diver Hector Garcia Boissier placed fourth in the 3-meter in a talented field during the first day of competition at the B1G/ACC Challenge at Purdue's Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center
With help from McHugh, the Big Ten women are leading 123-44, while the men, with help from Garcia Boissier, are leading by three points, 85-82.
McHugh led a 1-2-3 Big Ten sweep of the 500 yard freestyle in 4:39.63, achieving an NCAA B-cut. She also swam a B-cut of 4:07.89 in the 400 IM to place third.
McHugh joined three fellow Big Ten swimmers, Mackenzie Padington (Minnesota), Hannah Burvill (Iowa) and Kristen Romano (Ohio State) in the 800 free relay. The group snagged third place with a time of 7:10.07. Penn State's Maddie Hart also swam in a Big Ten relay joining Ana Sortland (Michigan State), Ilse Martinez (Illinois) and Megan Vuong (Illinois) for the 400 medley relay.
Senior diver Hector Garcia Boissier came in fourth among three other Big Ten divers in the men's 3-meter. Garcia's dive earned him a total of 390.00.
