Barratt Named B1G First Star of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) becomes the second-straight Nittany Lion to earn Big Ten First Star of the Week honors following his performance over the weekend against Michigan the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

Barratt led the entire nation with four goals in two games last weekend against Michigan while adding one assist for a Big Ten best five points, which ranked third nationally. The sophomore follows junior Nikita Pavlychev (Yaroslavl, Russia) who earned B1G First Star laurels last week and becomes the fifth different Penn State player to earn weekly accolades so far this season. Classmate Alex Limoges (Winchester, Va.) and junior classmates Brandon Biro (Sherwood Park, Alberta) and Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) have each been honored along with Barratt and Pavlychev so far this season.

For Barratt this is his first career weekly honor as he registered a pair of multi-point efforts against the Wolverines over the weekend with a goal and an assist on Friday night before becoming the seventh different player to register a hat-trick in Hockey Valley on Saturday night.

The sophomore also set a new program record for longest goal streak having scored at least one goal in six-straight games while also tying the Penn State record for longest point-streak, which currently sits at 10 games, both marks are career-highs.

Barratt's 19 points this season are already a new career-high surpassing the 18 he had as a freshman in 2017-18 and are tied for the national lead with Limoges while his nine goals lead the Big Ten and rank tied for second in the nation.

No. 6 Penn State returns to action this weekend as they travel to Columbus to battle the fifth-ranked Buckeyes in a pair of Big Ten contests on Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m.
