KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Redshirt junior defender Kaleigh Riehl has been named a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the United Soccer Coaches announced Tuesday afternoon. Riehl is one of 15 semifinalists for the award.
In 2018, Riehl helped anchor a Nittany Lion backline that allowed just 13 goals and posted 14 shutouts in 25 matches. Individually, she was on the field for 95 percent of the season for the Blue & White.
Riehl's accolades in 2018 include: All-North Region First Team, All-Big Ten First Team, Big Ten Defender of the Year, and two-time TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week member.
Eleven Nittany Lions have been named a semifinalist on 18 occasions. Raquel Rodriguez (2015) and Christie Welsh (2001) are the two Penn State women's soccer student-athletes to win the MAC Hermann Trophy.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is collegiate soccer's most prestigious award, presented annually to one male and one female athlete. Three male and three female finalists for the award will be announced on Dec. 7.
The 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 4, 2019, to formally announce this year's winners.
