KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Ally McHugh led the Penn State women's swimming & diving team with a win in the 500 freestyle on the opening day of the Tennessee Invitational hosted by the University of Tennessee Thursday in the Jones Aquatic Center.
The Nittany Lions finished the day with 135 points, to rank fourth trailing No 10. Tennessee (424), No. 25 Duke (309), and Denver (154). Penn and Carson-Newman followed Penn State with 107 and 61 points, respectively.
McHugh finished first in the 500 free in 4:38.46, her fastest time of the year so far. McHugh came into the invitational ranked second in the B1G in the 500 free with a time of 4:39.63. Sophomore Camryn Barry led three Penn State B-finalists in the event, placing 10th. Stephanie Szekely (13th; 4:52.81), Madison Murtagh (16th; 4:55.61) and Sadie Schumann (16th; 4:58.85) also earned evening swims in the event.
In the 200 IM, junior Heather MacDougal led in 11th (2:02.29), with sophomore Jane Donahue following in 16th (2:03.48). Senior Katrina Kuhn led in the 50 free with an evening swim in 23.26.
On the boards, Penn State saw two top-ten finishes in the 3-meter. Kamryn Umbel finished in sixth place with a score of 272.70, with Christina Crowell following her in ninth place (254.40).

The women's swimming and diving continue the Tennesse Invitational tomorrow with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
