ROSEMONT, Ill. – Coming off a weekend split with No. 5 Notre Dame, sophomore Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) and junior Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) were each honored by the Big Ten Conference as its Second and Third Stars of the week as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Barratt earns his second weekly accolade of the season with his Second Star of the Week honor after being named the First Star of the Week three weeks ago. The sophomore dished out a trio of first period assists, including two primary helpers, during a 9-1 victory against fifth-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday evening.
His three assists over the opening 20 minutes tied a Penn State single-game record for most assists in a period, which was set just one week earlier by classmate Alex Limoges (Winchester, Va.). Barratt later added his national-best 13th goal of the season in the third period for a career-high four-point night.
Barratt currently leads the entire country with his 29 points, which are also the most ever by a Nittany Lion of the first 17 games of the season. Barratt has registered at least one point in 14 of his 17 games played this season with 11 multi-point efforts to his credit. The Bristol, Pennsylvania native is also averaging 1.88 points per game during Big Ten contests with eight goals and seven assists in eight games.
Jones too garners his second weekly accolade of the season with a Third Star of the Week nod. The junior goaltender was also named Big Ten's Third Star of the Week on October 30th. Jones stopped 26-of-27 shots leading the Nittany Lions to a 9-1 victory over the Fighting Irish on Saturday evening posting a .963 save percentage for the game, which was the best mark in the conference last week for goaltenders making at least one start.
Penn State closes out its first semester of play this coming Saturday as they travel to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to battle Princeton at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased HERE.
