University Park, Pa.; November 2, 2018 -- The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams finished their second dual meet series today in Fairfield, Conn. Head coach Wes Glon's teams competed against Harvard, NYU, Vassar and Sacred Heart. Additionally, the men's fencing team fenced NJIT.
The men's team won four of five. The Nittany Lions beat NYU, 20-7; Vassar, 19-8; Sacred Heart, 23-4; and NJIT, 19-8. The men's only loss on the day came against Harvard, 15-12.
Leading the men's team was Matthew Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.) with a record of 13-1 in saber and freshman Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.) with an 11 -1 record in epee.
The women's team was perfect on the day winning all four of their duals. The Nittany Lions won against NYU, 23-4; Harvard, 15-12; Vassar, 24-3; and Sacred Heart, 21-6.
Leading the women was Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France) with a record of 8-0 in epee and sophomore Lodovica Bicego (Vicenza, Italy) with a 7-1 record today in foil.
Penn State will next be in action when select fencers will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Division 1 and 2 Olympic Trials, which will start Friday, Dec. 14, and end on Monday, Dec. 17.
