Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Teams | Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Women's Lacrosse team had two members named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America team as part of Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook. Senior attacker Madison Carter was selected First Team, while senior midfielder Kayla Brisolari was named Third Team.
In the Face-Off Yearbook, the Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, also earned a No. 9 preseason ranking. Penn State finished last season with a 10-10 record, reaching its seventh straight NCAA Tournament. PSU was ranked No. 18 in the final IWLCA Poll.
Carter is an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American for the second straight season. She collected numerous postseason honors in 2018, including IWLCA Second Team All-America, IWLCA First Team All-Region and All-Big Ten. She earned IWLCA Second Team All-America honors in 2017 and 2018.
As a junior, Carter led the Nittany Lions with 62 goals. She added two assists, 14 groundballs, 119 draw controls and six caused turnovers. Carter scored at least one goal in 19 of 20 games last year, including 16 multi-goal games. She ranked No. 3 in the Big Ten with 3.10 goals per game and No. 24 in the country in goals. Carter was also 20th in the nation with 5.95 draw controls per game. She enters the 2019 season ranking fifth in program history with 180 goals.
Brisolari ended the 2018 campaign as a Third Team All-America selection by the IWLCA. She was also an Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America honoree as well as IWLCA First Team All-Region and All-Big Ten.
In 2018, Brisolari tallied 10 goals, three assists, 76 draw controls, 23 groundballs and 24 caused turnovers. She had two multi-goal games and three multi-point performances. Brisolari registered 11 games with at least three draw wins.
The Nittany Lions open the 2019 season, and Panzer Stadium, against Towson on February 9 at 2 p.m. The Tigers were ranked 16th in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll. Towson is the first of nine opponents ranked in the Preseason Poll.
